How to understand it
Material chemistry, surface behaviour and fit all influence wear. Different material families cannot be ranked by water percentage alone.
An example
A 58% label does not mean the eye will stay comfortable for 58% longer than with another lens.
A common mix-up
Water content is not the same as tear-film stability or oxygen transmissibility.
