THE CLEAR VISION GUIDE

Carbon-fibre composites

Fibre and resin combine; lay-up and connections shape the result.

Composites

What it is, and why it behaves this way

Carbon fibres reinforce a resin matrix: the resin holds the fibres together, while their directions influence how the structure carries loads. A frame may use this composite only in its temples.

Weight in context

Offers lightweight construction potential; resin, joints and material quantity still count.

Flexibility & adjustment

Stiffness depends on the reinforcement and direction. Do not bend composite areas like metal wire.

What to check when trying on

Ask whether the fibre is structural or merely a surface pattern, and which parts can be adjusted.

Care & limitations

Avoid home heating or twisting. Stop using a frame with cracks, layer separation or loose joints until checked.

Put it into practice

Example: a carbon-look print and a load-bearing fibre composite can look similar. Ask what the frame is actually made from.

A common assumption to check

High fibre strength does not prove that assembled glasses are drop-proof or certified sports protection.
