What it is, and why it behaves this way
Stainless steel contains chromium, which supports a protective passive surface film. Grades differ, and some contain nickel. Stainless means corrosion-resistant under suitable conditions, not rust-proof in every environment.
Weight in context
Steel is relatively dense, but thin or cut-out construction can still be light.
Flexibility & adjustment
Thin sheet can flex; adjustment limits depend on thickness, welds and hinges.
What to check when trying on
Check smooth edges, nose-pad comfort and contact-part composition.
Care & limitations
Remove sweat and dry the frame. Have pitting, sharp edges or flaking finishes checked.
Put it into practice
Example: thin steel construction may weigh less than a bulky titanium frame. Density alone cannot rank finished glasses.
A common assumption to check
Stainless steel is not necessarily nickel-free. Check the specific alloy if you have a known allergy.
