Loose or crooked frames: adjust or repair?

Find the affected part before applying heat, force or a cleaner.

Start with the principle

Slipping can involve bridge contact, temple fit or a loose connection. A frame that looks asymmetric on a table is not necessarily crooked on an asymmetric face. Explain how it sits and feels when worn.

One method does not fit every material

A professional adjustment suitable for one component is not permission to heat or bend the whole pair. Acetate, flexible polymers, metal joints and composites have different constraints. Repeated bending can turn a fit problem into damage.

Care and damage need different responses

Use the supplied cleaning instructions and avoid unapproved solvents and high heat. Remove glasses with both hands to reduce one-sided pulling. Stop using a frame with cracks or sharp damage and arrange inspection.

A worked example

Teaching example: tightening the temples of a slipping frame may increase pressure behind the ears without fixing poor bridge contact. A fitting review should identify the cause before further bending.

CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDINGShould every slipping frame simply have its temples tightened?Open to see the explanation

No. Bridge fit, width and connections may need attention instead.
