A filter for reflected glare
Polarised lenses can reduce troublesome reflected light from surfaces such as water or roads. This can make some daytime outdoor activities more comfortable. Their effect depends on the light and viewing conditions, so they are not a universal solution for every kind of glare.
Some displays become harder to read
Polarisation can interact with LCD displays, making information look dim or disappear at certain angles. ZEISS specifically recommends considering displays and the intended activity. A good view of a sample card in a shop does not guarantee a good view of your dashboard.
Check UV protection separately
Look for the stated UVA and UVB protection as well as polarisation. These answer different questions about a sunglass lens. Do not infer UV protection from darkness, colour or the way a phone screen changes when you rotate the glasses.
Try your real equipment
Our buying checklist is to test your phone and parked vehicle’s displays while stationary, with your usual head position. Mention specialist activities such as boating or skiing to the dispenser. Ask about a suitable alternative if important information becomes hard to read.
