Start with the evidence
A 2023 Cochrane review found that blue-light filtering lenses may not reduce short-term computer-related eye strain compared with ordinary lenses. Evidence about sleep was uncertain; retinal protection was not established by the included trials.
Ask what the upgrade promises
Treat a blue-light filter as a specific feature, not proof of medical benefit. If screens feel uncomfortable, discuss your prescription, working distance and symptoms with an eye-care professional instead of relying on a filter alone.
