Place the lens for the wearer
Pupillary distance, or PD, helps the dispenser position the lenses relative to your eyes. ABDO recommends considering PD when selecting a frame, particularly for stronger prescriptions where decentration can affect thickness. Frame size markings are not a substitute for your own measurements.
Ask how the value is recorded
Our suggested question is: Does this field ask for one total value or a separate value for each eye, and for which viewing distance? Ask the provider to label the measurement clearly. Do not halve a total or combine unfamiliar values without confirming the intended format.
The selected frame still needs fitting
PD is one piece of an order, not proof that the whole pair fits. Ask which additional measurements the chosen lens design needs and how they will be taken with the frame in its wearing position. Progressive fitting height is a separate discussion.
Resolve uncertainty before production
If two records differ, bring both to the dispenser with their dates and the type of glasses involved. Ask which record applies to this order. Guessing a value to avoid delaying checkout can leave the real question unresolved when the finished pair arrives.
