Glasses slipping or leaving marks: check the fit

Bridge support, sides and wearing position can matter as much as a frame’s stated size.

Clear Lens editorial · Source-based explainer ·

Size labels are only a starting point

Two frames with the same printed size can fit differently. ABDO explains that width, bridge support and the way the sides sit all contribute to fit. A frame should be assessed on your face, not judged only by whether it looks symmetrical on a table.

Describe where it hurts or moves

Our useful fitting notes distinguish pressure on the nose, rubbing behind an ear, contact with the cheeks and slipping when looking down. Try the normal movements that cause the problem during the appointment. This is more specific than asking for the frame to be “tighter”.

Avoid improvised bending

Ask the practice to inspect and adjust the pair, particularly if changing the frame position changes what you can see. Keep track of when the problem began and whether the frame was bent or knocked. Do not keep forcing a fragile or damaged part back into place.

Choose for a full day, not one glance

At the next purchase, discuss your previous pressure points, daily activities and any known material sensitivity. Our suggestion is to try reading and looking down while wearing the candidate frame. Confirm how to obtain follow-up adjustments before leaving the shop.
