The frame is part of the calculation
For minus lenses, the edge is thicker than the centre. Frame dimensions and the position of your eyes within the frame affect how much of that edge remains after cutting.
Try two frames before upgrading
Ask the dispenser to compare two suitable frames with the same lens material. Request a finished-lens estimate using your actual measurements before paying for an index upgrade.
